Chapters Transcript Video Gastrectomy vs. Gastric Bypass Gregory Schroder, M.D., discusses and contrasts two types of bariatric surgery and how the addition of a the Titan Stapler has produced better outcomes for sleeve gastrectomy procedures. Hi, I'm Gregory Schroeder. I'm a bariatric surgeon with Sentara Medical weight loss group work out of oversee and care plex. So there are two basic procedures in bariatric surgery that we do these days. One is the sleeve gastrectomy and the other is the gastric bypass. The sleeve gastrectomy is the most common operation we're doing right now, approximately 60% of those procedures we do. Um The thing that really has energized me about the sleeve gastrectomy is we now have a new titan stapler that is a stapler that we're able to put on the stomach to create the sleeve and it does it all in one firing rather than us having to use multiple firings of a stapler to create the sleeve gastrectomy. Um it makes it more uniform, less nausea and vomiting, less reflux and provides a much better outcome for our patients.
