Chapters Transcript Video Provider Profile – Stephen Boronczyk, D.C. Stephen Boronczyk, D.C., discusses his clinical interests in the treatment of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal systems, and how Sentara’s inter-disciplinary model benefits patient care. I'm dr steve Brown check. I'm a chiropractor for Sentara healthcare. I work at the center of therapy Center at colosseum in Hampton Virginia. So my primary clinical interests are treating the general population neuro muscular conditions, musculoskeletal conditions. I kind of stay within that realm treating anything from sub occipital tension, tension, headaches, cervical, jah um asiatica, chronic back pain, anything that can be considered muscular, skeletal or neuro muscular related is um something that I would treat or consider an area of expertise. So I moved down to Virginia to work for a company like Sentara to work as a part of an interdisciplinary model. Um I believe Sentara is on the cutting edge of incorporating chiropractic care into both their medical group and their therapy centers. Um it was exciting for me to have the opportunity to work alongside physical therapists on a day to day basis, not only to refer my patients to them and have another resource but to also learn from them and incorporate some of their treatment cells into my care to make myself a better practitioner. So that was exciting for me being able to come to Sentara work for an interdisciplinary group, whether it be primary care physicians, neural specialist, um physical therapists, occupational therapists. That was something that excited me. Yeah, my approach first and foremost is to be empathetic to the patient's needs and concerns. I want to make sure I'm hearing them as a person and as a patient understanding where their pain maybe taking something from them, a functional loss that they have because of their discomfort and trying to get them back to that function or back to that activity that has been taken from them. So first and foremost, listening to my patient, being empathetic to my patients concerns and needs and then doing my best to work alongside as a team member with that patient, whether it's myself, physical therapy or some other specialty that's needed to bring that that patient relief, that's that's my philosophy and my outlook on patient care. I believe that vcenter is genuinely on the cutting edge of incorporating chiropractic care. Um it's something that's been slow progress, but that is a change that I feel like it's going to be beneficial to the patient because there is comprehensive care. Now, if there is a therapeutic exercise that a physical therapist is better at than the chiropractor, i in real time can place that referral same facility, I can discuss that with that physical therapist likewise with another specialty. Um it improves communication. It actually utilizes the technology that healthcare is trying to implement. Being all apart of Sentara I can communicate with providers quickly, I can see their charts, I can see their imaging in real time and I think the patient benefits from that because the patient has now more all encompassing picture of their health, whether it be something that's not related to musculoskeletal conditions, but could be contributing to the musculoskeletal condition. So, I think that's kind of the route the niche that chiropractic can play in this new health care model is supplementing what the medical team already has in place.
