Sentara Heart Failure Expert Leads JACC Position Statement on Clinically Meaningful Patient Outcomes

Amin Yehya, MD, MS, of Sentara Heart Hospital, is first author of a newly published JACC: Heart Failure position statement, “Defining Clinically Meaningful Within-Patient Changes in Heart Failure.”
The paper addresses an important challenge in heart failure research: determining when changes seen in clinical trials are not only statistically significant, but meaningful to an individual patient. Dr. Yehya and an international group of heart failure experts propose a practical framework for interpreting changes across clinical events, cardiovascular imaging, hemodynamics, biomarkers, functional capacity and patient-reported outcomes.
The framework is designed to help clinicians and researchers better translate clinical trial findings into information that can support patient-centered care and shared decision-making.
