Chapters Transcript Video Post-Bariatric Surgery Gregory Schroder, M.D., discusses bariatric surgery follow-up and how critical it is for the successful and sustained weight loss. Hi I'm Gregory Schroeder. I'm a bariatric surgeon with Sentara medical weight loss group work out of oversee and care plex after bariatric surgery. Every patient should be seen at least once a year for follow up to make sure they're taking their vitamins. They don't develop any vitamin deficiencies and they're not gaining weight. We really want to catch any weight gain after bariatric surgery early so we can intervene with our dietician psychologist and make changes to help patients get back on track and keep that weight off. However, some patients will gain back all of their weight or most of it. And in that case there are times when we can do revision surgery to go back in and redo the surgery to help the patients again start losing weight and maintain that weight loss. So follow up is critical for our patients. We recommend every patient who's had bariatric surgery, see their bariatric surgeon or if they're not in the area, come see us so we can help manage their care afterwards.
