At Sentara, the heart valve team works with each patient to facilitate the best treatment and outcome for heart valve disease. Interventional Cardiologists Matthew Summers, M.D., Deepak Talreja, M.D., David Adler, M.D., and Cardiac Surgeons Joseph Newton, Jr, M.D., and Clinton Kemp, M.D. share how the team approach benefits our patients to offer the most innovative and least-invasive options for heart valve disease.
My name is Matthew Summers. I'm the program director of Structural Heart at Centa and I'm the co director of the Centa Heart Valve Center. Centa Heart Valve Center is a collaboration between interventional cardiologist, uh specifically structural heart interventional cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons. Uh a collection of A PPS, nurses and MA S and support staff that really collaborate on, on the entire process of bowel disease therapy. And so it's, it's a collection of uh care providers and clinicians that are tasked with taking care of really uh routine heart valve issues, but also some of the most complex heart valve issues within the tide water community. Hi, my name is Deepak Talreja. I'm a structural cardiologist and interventional cardiologist with Centa Health. I've been in practice here for nearly 20 years now and I've had the honor of being a part of our structural heart team. Since really the inception of that field, we use a combination of surgical techniques and catheter based minimally invasive techniques. And so it's always a matter of individualizing for each individual patient. What's the right treatment for them? What's the safest and it's going to give them the best outcome and longest durability of treatments. Hi, my name is Doctor Joseph Newton and I am the surgical director uh for the Centa Heart valve Center. So that team approach between cardiac surgery and cardiology to help uh develop uh the right plan and then to execute the plan is what this is all about. Hi, I'm David Adler. I'm an interventional cardiologist, structural heart cardiologist with center cardiology specialists at our heart valve center in Norfolk, Virginia. The revolution came with transcatheter aortic valve replacement, which was when we were able to replace an aortic heart valve with a simple catheter through the groin and a tiny incision and send the patient home the next day. Hi, I'm Clint Kemp, one of the cardiac surgeons in Centa Mid Atlantic cardiothoracic surgeons and also a member of Centa Heart valve team. What makes this team special I think is all of us being able to bring our areas of expertise together to focus on a patient. Um What's been incredibly rewarding to me is to be able to treat patients that traditionally had no options whatsoever and be able to get some of the sickest of the patients in the IC U through a procedure together and get them better and healthy and on with their lives.
